About BCEA

The Central Library of African Studies (Biblioteca Central de Estudos Africanos) is a joint effort of four Portuguese research centers on African Studies: the Centro de Estudos Africanos (CEA-IUL), now Centro de Estudos Internacionais (CEI-Iscte), the Centro de Estudos Africanos da Universidade do Porto (CEAUP), the Centro de Estudos sobre África e do Desenvolvimento do ISEG-UTL and the Centro de Estudos Africanos da Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Lisboa.

The library is located within the Library of Iscte – University Institute of Lisbon and contains over 15 thousand volumes. The source of funding for the foundation of the BCEA was the Scientific Re-equipment Project (REEQ/26/SOA/2005) of the FCT – Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, the managing and financing entity of the same project.

The library is financed by FCT – Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, within the scope of the Programmatic Financing project with the reference UIDP/03122/2020.
